FORTNUM & MASON
Following the misadventures of Geoffrey, his cat and some mischievous mice at Christmas
Inspired by the range of traditions taking place at Christmas, these 8 windows stretch Fortnum & Mason's Piccadilly store showing the misadventures of Geoffrey and his cat. Attempting to partake in each Christmas tradition, Geoffrey embarks on tasks such as baking mince pies, decorating baubles and gift wrapping, all whilst his works Cat to save the day and undo his mistakes. Alongside the loveable Geoffrey and mischievous mice, nods to Fortnum’s history and iconography can be found dotted throughout the 8 scenes, with the 181 door number and the postal collection time of 17:07 matching the year Fortnum & Mason was founded.
The story of Geoffrey was brought to life in just under 5 weeks. Using Fortnum's cartoon illustrations as reference Geoffrey, based and named off of the illustrator who created him, and the story's characters were sculpted by eye in multiples to carry the characters across each scene and encourage their animated personalities. All props were then made to be 'undersized' compared to their real life counterparts in order to fit the scale of the window scheme, including the replacement of a traditional grandfather clock with an antique Grandmother clock. The combination of illustrated characters and real life objects realise the festive message of each window and offer a guidebook of Fortnum's Christmas traditions across these 8 joyful scenes.
